About The Position

New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the part-time role of after-school Academic Enrichment Coach. In this role, you will be critical to the successful operation of New York Edge's after-school program. You will be responsible for providing a safe and positive environment for school-age children and providing opportunities for learning, interaction, and academic/personal growth. Academic Enrichment Coaches also participate in activities and trips while providing and maintaining a safe working environment. They help with homework and prepare students to demonstrate newly acquired skills in Sports and Arts.

Requirements

  • Possess a desire to work directly with children.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, actively engaged, and patient.
  • Ability to follow directions and adhere to all policies/procedures.
  • Open to feedback with a desire to grow professionally.
  • Must have reliable communication/computer devices at home with internet access.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred.
  • Experience working with children strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate supervision at all times to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of program participants.
  • Be an agent of safety for campers, taking responsibility for one’s well-being and the well-being of others.
  • Keep the immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding participants, staff, or the facility.
  • Engage participants in meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are structured, age-appropriate, fun, exciting, and challenging.
  • Prepare the learning environment and necessary supplies for program activities.
  • Support the planning and implementation of all activities, including learning initiatives, field trips, and culminating performances.
  • Provide support to Activity Specialists with activity implementation.
  • Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child’s strengths and areas of growth.
  • Attend all required training sessions and actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
  • Ensure that groups are in ratio.

Benefits

  • Part-time schedule with hours from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Pay rate of $17.00/hr.
