About The Position

Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Women’s Football, this role works closely with the AFLW Senior Coach to design and deliver high-performance training programs and game strategies that align with the Richmond Football Club’s purpose: Belonging, Thriving and Winning. This position plays a critical role in supporting the continued growth, skill development and performance of AFLW players across all stages of their careers. The focus is on creating an environment where players are equipped to succeed both on and off the field, developing the capability, confidence and professionalism required to perform at the highest level. Working in close collaboration with the coaching and coaching development teams, the role is responsible for enhancing player skill acquisition, tactical understanding, leadership and overall football performance. In addition, the position provides key operational and strategic support to the Senior Coach, AFLW staff and relevant stakeholders to ensure the Women’s Football program is delivered with excellence, efficiency and alignment to the club’s standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum AFL Level 2 Coaching Accreditation, with Level 3 accreditation highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated coaching experience within an AFLW, AFL or pre-elite football program, with a proven ability to contribute within a high-performance sporting environment.
  • Strong proficiency in computer operating systems and applications, including Apple and Microsoft platforms, with the ability to utilise technology effectively to support coaching, performance analysis and communication.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the technical and tactical elements of football required to achieve success at an elite or high-performance level.
  • Current Working with Children Check / Working with Vulnerable People Check, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Proven experience leading, motivating and inspiring individuals or teams to achieve performance outcomes and collective success.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage challenges with composure, professionalism and consistency, particularly within high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced high-performance environment.
  • High emotional intelligence with an approachable and professional manner, combined with a strong work ethic and commitment to team success.
  • Positive, resilient and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and demanding environment.
  • A genuine passion for and strong knowledge of Australian Rules Football, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for a designated coaching line as appointed by the Senior Coach, providing leadership, technical coaching and ongoing development support for players within that group.
  • Plan, design and deliver craft and game model training sessions in collaboration with the Senior Coach to ensure alignment with the team’s tactical framework and performance objectives.
  • Develop, implement and regularly review Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for players, as directed by the Senior Coach, utilising the Richmond Football Club database and performance tracking systems.
  • Analyse performance data and recommend relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) that provide an accurate reflection of individual and team performance relative to opposition clubs.
  • Conduct detailed vision and data analysis to support player learning and prepare and deliver vision presentations for line meetings and coaching reviews.
  • Utilise performance data, vision analysis and KPIs to enhance players’ understanding of their strengths, areas for development and overall game awareness.
  • Support the Senior Coach in the ongoing development and execution of long-term strategies for individual player development.
  • Assist with the integration and development of train-on players within the AFLW training environment.
  • Implement and coordinate the weekly training schedule in collaboration with coaching, performance and operations staff.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the team game model, working closely with the Senior Coach and coaching staff while introducing contemporary trends, innovations and insights that strengthen Richmond’s competitive advantage.
  • Act as a key communication link between coaching staff, performance staff and players, ensuring clear and consistent messaging across the program.
  • Analyse player and team performance during matches and provide constructive in-game feedback during breaks.
  • The Senior Assistant Coach may be required to perform the role of bench coach and other coaching duties on match day, as directed by the Senior Coach.
  • Attend all scheduled training sessions, matches (including interstate travel), practice matches and club activities as required by the Senior Coach and Football Operations staff.
