About The Position

Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for an Afloat NAMTS Coordinator serving as a key support to the NAMTS Afloat program. The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive operational and technical background as a Hull Technician (HT) in the United States Navy. This position specifically requires a candidate who has attained the rank of E-7, E-8, or E-9, with a proven track record of leadership, training, and execution at the deckplate level. The qualified candidate must possess the Navy Advanced Welder NEC and demonstrate extensive hands-on experience as a Shipfitter and Pipefitter performing Intermediate (I-Level) maintenance in support of fleet readiness. Located in San Diego, CA.

Requirements

  • Must have an Associate’s Degree or at least 13 years of experience in operating, maintaining, repairing, and training within Hull Technician (HT) systems, including structural, welding, and piping systems installed on naval vessels.
  • Must have attained the rank of E-7, E-8, or E-9 in the United States Navy as a Hull Technician (HT).
  • Must possess the Navy Advanced Welder NEC.
  • Must have extensive hands-on experience performing Intermediate (I-Level) maintenance as a Shipfitter and Pipefitter, including welding, fabrication, and repair of shipboard structural and piping systems.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in welding, fabrication, piping systems repair, and structural maintenance in a naval environment.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and execute work in accordance with ship drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, and NAVSEA-approved technical references.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and make independent technical and operational decisions within established guidance and trade practices.
  • Must have an Active DoD Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain it.
  • Must have and maintain a valid passport.
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 3 years of experience as a team member for afloat assessments such as INSURV or ATG.
  • At least 10 years of experience with O-Level or I-Level maintenance, including scheduling, training, and QA/QC oversight of Sailors performing maintenance and repair.
  • NAMTS, NEC, or Master-level certification in HT-related skill areas.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and execute the NAMTS Afloat program across assigned vessels, ensuring effective delivery, administration, and technical support aligned with program objectives.
  • Provide oversight of JQR and USMAP indoctrination, ensuring Sailors and leadership understand program requirements, expectations, and benefits. Partner with Department Heads, Division Officers, and senior enlisted leadership to assess candidate readiness and drive qualification progress.
  • Monitor and enforce Afloat NAMTS candidate progression to ensure timely completion of program requirements, including JQRs, examinations, and oral boards in accordance with established timelines.
  • Coordinate and support JQR qualification boards, ensuring proper execution, participation, and adherence to program standards. Review completed JQRs for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with approved qualification processes.
  • Maintain oversight of NAMTS data integrity, ensuring all QPR and CeTARS entries are accurate, current, and properly documented to support reporting and audit readiness.
  • Identify program gaps, training deficiencies, and execution challenges, and implement corrective actions to improve Afloat NAMTS performance and outcomes. Support data collection, metrics tracking, and preparation of program reviews and audits.
  • Submit and coordinate external training requirements as needed to support candidate development and program execution.
  • Provide clear, concise briefings and written communication to senior leadership (O-6/GS-15 level) on program status, risks, and performance.
  • Leverage in-depth expertise in Hull Technician systems, including structural repair, welding, piping systems, and shipboard fabrication, to support training, qualification, and maintenance execution.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, NAVSEA requirements, and technical directives related to welding, fabrication, and shipboard structural and piping systems.
  • Execute and support maintenance activities in accordance with Formal Work Packages (FWPs) and Controlled Work Packages (CWPs), ensuring quality, safety, and technical accuracy.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and professional development to junior personnel, strengthening HT tradecraft and supporting the development of future Hull Technicians, Shipfitters, and Pipefitters.
