Provide analysis and support to assigned operational program area. To advance the development, integration, and support of innovative design technologies that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and quality of transportation project delivery. Support engineers, designers, project teams and internal and external customers by implementing and maintaining digital tools, workflows, and standards related to 3D design software and other emerging technologies. Collaborate across disciplines to ensure that VDOT remains at the forefront of design innovation, while aligning technology solutions with agency goals, industry best practices, and evolving infrastructure needs. How you will contribute: Design Technologies Support: Serve as the technical support resource for all departmental CADD software applications, including but not limited to, Bentley design tools such as OpenRoads, OpenBridge, and the ProjectWise file management system. Duties include installing and configuring software, managing user accounts and access permissions, and ensuring operational functionality. Coordinate with technical staff and other division support teams to diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and system-related issues in a timely and efficient manner. Helpdesk Support: Manage and maintain support requests within the Design Technologies helpdesk system (database), including the entry, monitoring, and assessment of tickets submitted by both internal and external users. Diagnose and resolve issues as they are received to ensure support of all issues in a timely and efficient manner. Serve as backup Helpdesk Coordinator, providing administrative support and oversight of the Helpdesk system as required. Technical Development: Develop and maintain user-focused written communication materials, including job aids, training manuals, and presentations, to support the effective use of software applications. Ensure all documentation is regularly updated to reflect changes in software functionality and departmental processes, promoting consistent and accurate user support. Vendor Coordination: Coordinate and manage interactions with software vendors, including initiating support requests for vendor-specific technical issues and working directly with vendors to ensure timely and effective problem resolution. Collaborate with vendors to discuss new software initiatives, updates, and potential impacts—both positive and negative—on existing systems to support the department’s operational goals and technology strategy.
