Aquatech needs a full-time Laboratory and Treatability Technician to work in our Creekside, PA, location. The Technician will perform the duties described in the job description below and will be considered an on-exempt employee. The ideal candidate will have experience working in an industrial laboratory specializing in industrial wastewater characterization for in-house engineering use and customer reports. This candidate will be responsible for all laboratory work, from analyses to maintaining labware in a ready-to-use condition.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) or more years of experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude/technical background desired.
  • Experience/training in bench top wet inorganic chemistry analytical procedures desired.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed lab procedures and safety sheets.
  • Experience/familiarity with standard laboratory instruments such as pH and conductivity meters, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, analytical balances, and microscopes.
  • Work proficiently in solution making, with measuring devices, data handling, and instrument operation.
  • Demonstrate initiative and willingness to learn and grow in responsibility on the job.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to communicate with team members and receive precise chemical data and procedures.
  • Non-colorblind.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Developing operating procedures and performing tests for various water and wastewater treatment operations.
  • Conducting jar tests for determining and optimizing chemical dosing for various treatment approaches.
  • Performing settling tests, e.g., SVI.
  • Conducting bench and pilot scale evaluations for anoxic, aerobic, and anaerobic biological treatment.
  • Conducting columns and batch testing for ion exchange resins, carbon adsorption, activated alumina, etc.
  • Preparing synthetic solutions to simulate customer wastewater for preliminary characterization.
  • Collecting data by measuring/recording operating conditions such as pumping rates, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), oxidation reduction potential (ORP), temperature, and pressure.
  • Operating and performing light maintenance on small-scale equipment such as pumps, heaters, and mixers.
  • Preparing samples for testing and preparing reagents for in-house lab analyses.
  • Performing various laboratory tests including pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), color temperature (T), oxidation reduction potential (ORP), volatile organic acids (VOA), M & P alkalinity (ALK), calcium & magnesium hardness, total hardness, oil & grease, total suspended solids (TSS), volatile suspended solids (TVSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), oxygen uptake rate (OUR), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), turbidity, phosphorus/phosphate, TKN/ammonia/nitrite/nitrate, and biogas measurement.
  • Pulling samples for third-party laboratory analysis.
  • Maintaining reagents and lab inventory.
  • Maintaining calibration records for lab equipment.
  • Maintaining MSDS documentation for lab chemicals and reagents.
  • Managing and communicating data.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of lab equipment including glassware used in lab analyses and operating areas.
