About The Position

Rolls-Royce is seeking an Aerothermal Engineer to design, analyze, and simulate various gas turbine system components and sub-systems using methodologies such as meanline, throughflow, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The role involves working with performance organizations and system-level design to define and interpret sub-system requirements, overseeing component and sub-system tests, and reporting on CFD simulations and experimental results. The position emphasizes continuous improvement and collaboration across various engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design or control systems, OR Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, OR JD/PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a high-level security clearance.

  • Familiarity with computer aided design tools such as NX.
  • Proficient with aerodynamics, turbomachinery, airfoil design, and CFD.
  • Competent with gas turbine engine architecture, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.

  • Experience working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary, product-focused team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and simulate gas turbine system components and sub-systems.
  • Work with performance organization and system level design to define and interpret sub-system requirements.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee component and sub-system rig tests for product and technology development.
  • Assemble, interpret, and report CFD simulations, experimental results, and first principle analyses.
  • Support aerodynamics disciplines with capability acquisition and process automation.
