About The Position

Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) is looking for an Experienced (Level 3), Senior (Level 4), or Lead (Level 5) System Safety Engineer to join our Space, Intelligence & Weapons (SI&WS) team. This position is to help ensure the safety of products & services from our space mission systems portfolio. The selected candidate will be able to work out of Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida. The selected candidate will be a core member of a fast-paced, productive, and close-knit engineering team. System Safety Engineers are integral to the entire product lifecycle to identify, analyze, mitigate and verify the safety hazard risk of our Boeing products. This includes collaboration with all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, requirements definition, and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their fielded environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 5: 14+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated project engineering experience with SOW development and execution, including scope definition, decomposition, change assessment, and resource/schedule planning.
  • 3+ years of experience in Systems Safety, Systems Engineering, and/or Product Design
  • This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • Experience with NASA and/or Department of Defense (DoD) team projects such as trade studies, design work, or safety analysis
  • Experience with System Safety standards such as MIL-STD-882E, NASA STD 8719.8, ARP4761A, ARP4754A and DO-178C
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate well and work within a team environment with a focus on first time quality
  • Strong proficiency in default Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with System Safety analysis tools (e.g., BowTieXP, Reliability Workbench, FaultTree+, Hazard Tracking System)
  • Proficiency with Model-Based Engineering (i.e., Cameo/MSOSA and SysML)

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates customer specifications and regulations, and assess the design to develop safety requirements, constraints, and operating limits
  • Develops System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), as required
  • Performs a variety of hazard analyses across the full product life cycle, such as the Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System & Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Software Safety Hazard Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Reviews engineering design specifications, test and manufacturing operations, change proposals, anomaly reports, and deviation/waiver requests for potential safety impacts
  • Collaborates with government, customer, and program domain experts
  • Prepares presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer safety boards, program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews
  • Develops proposals, work statements, and specifications affecting system safety engineering scope and budget
  • Delivers oral and written system safety and risk presentations to peers, program management, senior leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies
