About The Position

The Boeing Company is seeking a Mid-Level (Level 3) or Senior (Level 4) Systems Safety Engineer to join the systems safety program in Tukwila, WA . This role supports the design, development, testing, and fleet support systems for the P-8 aircraft. The Boeing P-8 Poseidon is a multi-mission maritime patrol aircraft excelling at anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, maritime domain awareness, and search and rescue. In operation worldwide, the P-8 redefines the standards of multi-mission patrol and reconnaissance in every mission it undertakes. Position Overview: Leads system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns and quantifies impact. Leads identifying safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices. Leads collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements. Incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures. Leads, influences or reviews tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements. Leads creation of aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes. Leads documentation of complex safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards. Develops safety plan strategies and coordinates safety and corrective action plans with programs. Demonstrates safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators. Leads ensuring mission success through execution of Mission Assurance activities throughout the program lifecycle. Establishes global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods. Lead and execute systems safety IAW Mil-Std-882e activities to support a military aircraft program. Translate regulatory, contractual, and customer systems safety requirements into engineering and verification tasks. Support change management, risk identification/mitigation, and resolution of technical issues affecting systems safety including fleet management. Participate in design reviews, conduct safety analyses to demonstrate system safety Develop, review and manage safety artifacts and maintain hazards tracking system, reports, etc. Coordinate cross‑IPT activities to ensure requirements traceability and that safety inputs are integrated into system design, modification, technical publications, and other validation and verification processes. Communicate status, risks, and recommendations concisely to program leadership, engineers, suppliers, and customers. Mentor junior engineers and lead small technical efforts or workstreams as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
  • Experience with defense systems and platforms
  • Experience implementing Department of Defense system safety standards MIL STD 882E

  • Experience with software development processes such as requirements, software design, documentation and configuration control
  • Experience with aircraft maintenance regulatory requirements
