About The Position

The Boeing Company BCA In-Service Safety Organization is looking for multiple System Safety Engineers (Associate, Mid-Level or Senior) to join our team in Everett, Washington. As an engineer in the BCA In-Service Safety organization you will have the opportunity to work independently while leading teams tasked with evaluating safety issues for systemic causes and defining actions to prevent recurrence of the safety issue. This activity enables program and functional leadership to render informed safety decisions and preserves the operational safety of the commercial fleet going forward. This position offers exposure to all aspects of airplane production, design, and operation, mainly focused on evaluating the safety of our products during operation in service. The importance of this function can't be over-stated as you will contribute to ensuring product safety for BCA. Safety issue evaluations include consideration of the intended performance of the airplane design, published operational and maintenance guidance, and aspects involving human factors and the human/machine interface. Frequent engagement with our Air Safety Investigation group, quality organizations, certification experts, operations, and functional team experts from across the company make the position highly invigorating. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 1+ years of experience in an engineering field.

Nice To Haves

  • Mid-Level: 3+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Senior: 5+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) tools and/or the Boeing Problem Solving Model (BPSM).
  • 1+ years of project management knowledge.
  • 1+ years of experience with commercial airplane operation, certification, safety requirements and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Continued Operational Safety reporting processes per 14 CFR 21.3 requirements.
  • 1+ years of experience working with FAA or other regulatory agencies.
  • 1+ years of experience in Commercial Airplane-Systems design or analysis (e.g. Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Avionics, Fuels, etc.) or Systems Integration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross functional teams through the Safety Lesson Learned process for any event designated as Safety.
  • Conduct Safety Lessons Learned investigations to identify systemic root causes and contributing factors and associated actions to prevent safety issue recurrence on future designs.
  • Coordinate closely with Boeing functional groups, management, executives, suppliers, and production to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on safety investigation process and the resulting Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Investigate all aspects of the design, manufacturing, maintenance, and operational processes, bringing together multi-discipline teams to develop company level solutions for highly integrated and complex product safety concerns.
  • Ensure systemic root causes are adequately addressed in order to prevent recurrence of the safety concerns.
  • Coordinate closely with the FAA to ensure the regulators have visibility of the safety investigation and resulting actions.
  • Partner with Enterprise Safety and Safety Management Systems (SMS) to continuously improve processes and tools.
  • Act as a champion for product safety initiatives, objectives, and milestones.
  • Communicate complex technical issues with a variety of audiences and lead a group of multi-discipline engineers and non-engineers.
