About The Position

Provide aerospace systems analysis support to the Systems Analysis Group of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Rocket Propulsion Division (AFRL/RQR). Typical tasks involve the creation of novel trajectory optimization software & tools with applications on relevant missions of interest spanning spacecraft, launch vehicles, hypersonic vehicles, and missiles. The tools and resulting analysis will be transitioned to customers within the DoD and commercial sector. The employee will participate in analysis of rocket propulsion systems through: Development of trajectory optimization methods for relevant applications accounting for flight dynamic constraints, mission requirements, and constraints resulting from external system to system interfaces. Support domain spanning trajectory tool development covering broad spectrum rocket propulsion applications: missiles, launch, and space systems. Creation of software and toolchains that incorporate novel methods for use in payoff analyses at the Engineering level, up to the Mission level of MS&A. Perform analysis of rocket propulsion enabled technologies for systems using the developed toolsets showcasing customer's advance propulsion S&T. Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This position will be located at Edwards AFB, CA.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree or higher in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2 - 10 years' experience in aerospace systems analysis.
  • Proven ability to use MATLAB/Python to solve engineering problems.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to operate in a team environment with good interpersonal skills.
  • Good reporting and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a US security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of AI/ML.
  • Familiarity with mission analysis tools like AFSIM/GMAT/STK.
