At ULA, success comes through the efforts of a strong, united team.Job Overview & Responsibilities As an Aerospace Production Technician - CNC Machinist at United Launch Alliance, responsibilities include: Set-up and operation of large 3 to 5 axis CNC Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) and CNC Gantry Milling machines for turning and milling of precision aluminum ring forgings, plate stock and milling of stainless steel to produce high quality production hardware. Set-up tooling fixtures, indicating in large ring forgings and plates, identifying cutting tool requirements, loading CNC programs, visual inspecting, hand deburring, and wash operation of various manufacturing handling equipment such as overhead cranes. Validation of CNC program configuration for rings and large pattern plate stock parts while maintaining quality requirements. Work to specified tolerances and finishes to achieve blueprint specification of large-scale rings and/or skin panels. Determine finishing requirements and prescribe in proper sequence the operations required and the methods and/or equipment necessary to accomplish the finishing of surfaces (deburring, wash booths, etc.). Perform periodic maintenance procedures on machinery and equipment in order to ensure proper fluid levels, cleanliness and travel of moving parts on all machinery. Maintain schedule metrics relating to maintenance procedures and/or problems and malfunctions that arise during assigned shift. This role has the ability to work any of the available shifts: Weekday Night shift: Monday-Thursday  8:00 PM-6:30 AM (4x10) Weekend Night shift: Friday-Sunday 6:00 PM-6:30 AM (3 x 12) Weekend Day shift: Friday-Sunday 6:00 AM-6:30 PM (3 x 12)

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant machining experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with 3 to 5 axis machining/turning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CNC programming.
  • Demonstrated experience understanding and utilizing blueprints.
  • Previous experience with basic machine shop measuring tools.
  • Must have knowledge of speeds and feeds for machine cutters.
  • Must be able to work the following available shifts, based on seniority: Weekday Night shift: Monday-Thursday  8:00 PM-6:30 AM (4x10) Weekend Night shift: Friday-Sunday 6:00 PM-6:30 AM (3 x 12) Weekend Day shift: Friday-Sunday 6:00 AM-6:30 PM (3 x 12)
  • Training will take place on Monday – Thursday, 1st shift.
  • Flexible to work weekends, overtime, and alternate shifts when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience operating and setting up large 3 to 5 axis CNC Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) and/or CNC Gantry Milling machines.
  • Understanding of geometric tolerances.
  • Proficient with advanced math (Example: trigonometry).
  • Operate basic machine shop support equipment such as, but not limited to, overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Security Clearance / International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR). This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR).
