About The Position

This position is for an Aerospace Maintenance Technician located at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Florida. Member of the Launch Operations team responsible for checkout, maintenance, repair, refurbishment, calibration, troubleshooting and operation of mission critical production, ground support, and facility structural-mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical/power, fluid control/management, and facility or launch vehicle environmental control/HVAC systems throughout the lifecycle of these systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC equipment including chillers, split systems, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, piping, heat exchangers, and associated equipment. (formal training programs included)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance is required. US citizenship is required.
  • Universal - Environmental Protection Agency Refrigerant Handling Certification required.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision or in a team setting to support overall HVAC shop operations, Work Order processing, and monitoring systems to adjust vehicle temperature and humidity levels utilizing HVAC/ Facility monitoring hardware and software.
  • Read and make control adjustments using typical testing equipment such as Freon leak testers, thermometer (wet and dry bulbs) sling and motorized psychrometer, monometer, velometer, hydrometer, humidistat. Connect vacuum and pressure gauges.
  • Braze and solder various metals to connect piping.
  • Must have practical working experience in the industrial installation or HVAC chiller equipment service industry.
  • Must have the ability to work overtime, 1st shift (for training) and alternate shifts as required. After training is complete, shift will be determined by seniority.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50lbs on a frequent basis.
  • Capable of climbing and working at unprotected heights.
  • Travel to other ULA facilities will be required.
  • A current valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain active DoD TS/SCI is required. US citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed formal training in HVAC/refrigeration (AS, vocational certificate, apprenticeship)
  • Experience in installation, repairs and service on programable logic controllers.
  • A current journeyman or contractor’s license.
  • Clean room experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the maintenance, testing, overhauling, installation, and effects repairs on a large variety of types of complex HVAC equipment, air handlers, pumps, motors, valves, heating systems, and associated auxiliary and control equipment
  • Performs preventive maintenance functions which include but are not limited to changing filters; cleaning cooling towers, heating and cooling coils, roof top units, booster pumps, and maintaining refrigeration systems.
  • Regularly monitors for proper operation of pressures and temperatures, records observations, ensures mechanical systems are operating at peak efficiency, and responds to and performs emergency repairs as required.
  • Perform service and maintenance work on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motor compressors, and valves.
  • Performs corrective operations on A/C systems, including replacing and/or grinding of compressor valves; adjusting bearings, inspecting and replacing gaskets, replacing work bushings, fans, coils, belts, sheaves, bellows, thermostatic bulbs, and other mechanical/electrical components related to the equipment.
  • Monitor and adjust all mechanical/ pneumatic equipment, control gauges, valves, thermostats, diffusers and other equipment necessary to provide a comfortable and compliant environment for the buildings.
  • Utilize general knowledge of building codes, regulations and safety procedures.
  • Utilize general knowledge that demonstrates increased skill level in the mechanical field to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Use blueprints or design specifications to install or repair systems.
  • Use hand and power tools safely to maintain and repair Launch Vehicle Processing support systems.
  • May receive specialized equipment training as required to maintain critical facilities.
  • This posting is hiring for multiple shifts but will start on 1st shift for training. After training is complete, shift will be assigned based on seniority
