Our mission-driven team is seeking a bold and dynamic Human Systems Integration (HSI) Lead who is fueled by high ownership, execution horsepower, growth mindset, and driven to understand our world, science/technology, and life itself, for the benefit of all on Earth and beyond. POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a resilient, high‑energy Human Systems Integration (HSI) Lead to guide the specification, design, and implementation of the HSI Program supporting Axiom Station). This role requires a systems thinker with strong cross‑functional collaboration skills, exceptional organization, and the ability to manage complex technical efforts across internal teams and external suppliers. The HSI Lead will ensure that human performance, safety, usability, and mission effectiveness are fully integrated into system design and operations. This position is onsite at our Space Station Development Facility (SSDF) in Webster, Texas.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Human Factors, Systems Engineering, Human Systems Integration, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in HSI, human factors engineering, or user‑centered design within aerospace or similarly complex technical environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in process mapping, documentation development, and structured analysis methods.
  • Experience applying HSI principles to complex, safety‑critical systems (preferably aerospace, defense, or spaceflight hardware).
  • Experience with NASA HSI processes, standards, and evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience developing ConOps, operational scenarios, and crew workflows for human‑rated systems.
  • Experience supporting system verification, validation, and certification processes.
  • Hands‑on experience conducting task analyses, workload assessments, usability evaluations, and human error analyses.
  • Familiarity with NASA standards such as NPR 8705.2, NASA‑STD‑3001, NASA‑STD‑3000, and related HSI/human factors guidance.
  • Knowledge of anthropometric modeling, volumetric analysis, and digital human modeling tools (e.g., JACK, CREO Manikin, Siemens Human Modeling).
  • Experience conducting crew‑in‑the‑loop testing, mockup evaluations, or human‑in‑the‑loop simulations.
  • Experience working with cross‑disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, systems, safety, operations, medical).
  • Familiarity with spaceflight operations, microgravity constraints, and crew habitability considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end‑to‑end Axiom HSI process for the Axiom Station.
  • Develop and implement HSI strategies, plans, and standards, including volumetric assessments, evaluation criteria, HSI evaluation reports, human error analyses, task analyses, and other required documentation.
  • Lead cross‑functional HSI design reviews to ensure human‑centered requirements are incorporated into system architecture, hardware design, and operational concepts.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Axiom Station Master Task Analysis.
  • Develop and maintain human‑system requirements, verification methods, and acceptance criteria for hardware and related interfaces.
  • Conduct user research, workflow studies, task analyses, and usability testing to inform system design and operational concepts.
  • Coordinate with Human Factors, Operations, Safety, and Engineering teams to identify and mitigate human‑system risks throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Participate in hazard analyses, Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), and risk assessments with a human‑centered perspective.
  • Support the development of Concept of Operations (ConOps), crew workflows, and operational scenarios for hardware use on orbit.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of crew‑in‑the‑loop evaluations, mockup assessments, and integrated simulations.
  • Ensure compliance with NASA standards related to HSI, human factors, usability, and crew health and performance.
  • Support certification, verification, and validation activities for human‑rated systems.
  • Collaborate with Responsible Engineers, Operations, Medical Operations, and Safety teams to develop test plans, conduct HSI analyses, and produce associated reports.
  • Interface with external suppliers to ensure HSI considerations are embedded in vendor designs, documentation, and test plans.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and key findings to stakeholders, leadership, and cross‑functional partners.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior HSI or Human Factors team members.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Axiom’s HSI processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program and organizational goals.
