Job Description: Aerospace Design Engineer - II The successful candidate will report to the Design Department Manager and be responsible to develop engineering designs of components, assemblies, subassemblies, subsystems and manage formal documentation such as technical memorandums, analysis reports, hardware databases, design and development books, or product manuals. This function is responsible for but not limited to the following: Knowledge and experience with the design and development of spacecraft, spacesuits, aircraft, military, or other relevant vehicles, systems, subsystems, assemblies, and/or components. Knowledge and experience in the engineering product lifecycle, ranging from requirements development through design, manufacture, test, and operations. Understanding and experience with ASME Y14.5 GD&T (Geometric Dimension and Tolerances). Knowledge and demonstrated skills in design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) and exposure to manufacturing and assembly practices. Experience working with human spaceflight rated materials and associated requirements. Knowledge and demonstrated skills in applying engineering principles and procedures to develop practical and tailored engineering solutions. Knowledge of, and demonstrated skills, in SolidWorks CAD software (or similar) and SolidWorks PDM. Knowledge of, and demonstrated skills, in applying and calculating tolerances and generating tolerance stack-ups based on a thorough understanding of GD&T per the ASME standard. Knowledge and skills in applying dynamic and static structural analysis using first principals. Proficiency in SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS is desired but not required. Skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, TEAMS). Ability to conceptualize design solutions and generate CAD renderings given a limited requirements set. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and spoken form. Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines, both technical and non-technical, to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges. Ability to generate, present, maintain, provide status, and release drawing change notices (ECNs) through SolidWorks PDM. Ability to establish and maintain effective, positive work relationships; have creativity, flexibility and resourcefulness; have discriminating judgment, tact and sense of humor. Ideally, but not required, skills in project budgeting and forecasting.
