Summary The Aerospace Camp Experience (ACE) Lead Counselor supports The Museum of Flight and its Aerospace Camp Experience (ACE) by leading one unit in this engaging STEM education focused day camp. This position ensures a smooth and successful experience in day-to-day camp activities and programs. Primary responsibilities include the execution, oversight, and some development of themed programming emphasizing STEM subjects that include aviation, space, robotics, and beyond. This position works to create a safe, fun, and educational camp environment and provides excellent customer service to a diverse ACE clientele. This role requires a level of professionalism to successfully serve as the shift lead for ACE Counselors.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.
• Two (2) years of work experience in structured youth education programming.
• Prior experience in classroom, experiential, formal or informal education preferred.
• Experience leading teams in a work or academic environment.
• Competent planning and organizational skills.
• Proven effective interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and plan work activities using time and resources efficiently, develop realistic action plans, and seek support when needed.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people, including staff, campers of all ages, parents, and volunteers.
• Ability to make solid decisions quickly under pressure and comfortable leading and directing staff and camp participants in a respectful and professional manner.
• Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification, or may be obtained prior to first day of camp through the provided Museum certification training or other.
• Oversight of minors; 18 years of age is required.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of STEM subjects, such as aviation, astronomy, robotics, and/or aerospace preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute one unit of camp per week during the active camp season including instruction, direction, and supervision of campers, leading camp staff, and facilitating all camp activities.
• Lead or assist counselors with the teaching of camp activities.
• Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
• In partnership with program leadership, may provide oversight and guidance with daily operations including team support, facilitation, volunteers, and colleagues.
• Write weekly schedules for camper activities and oversee the daily activities assigned to the ACE Counselors.
• Work to ensure a safe, fun, and educational environment for campers.
• Bring all personnel and safety issues to the ACE Manager for oversight and employment related actions.
• Follow all ACE and Museum policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety, medical and disciplinary situations, emergency procedures, and child abuse prevention.
• Support campers emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
• Participate in and help prepare for camp staff training and mentorship; provide input to ACE Manager in regard to performance reviews.
• Assist in the research, development, improvement, and execution of educational activities for relevant camp themes.
• Create requisitions for purchases for program activity supplies within established need.
• Track and communicate with administration about equipment and supply needs.
• Assist with before and after camp care as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
