We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Aerial Ground Hand to join our growing telecommunications company that is redefining the data network industry. This is a full-time, non-exempt hourly position, eligible for overtime and paid bi-weekly. Job Purpose: The Aerial Ground Hand assist aerial lineman by preparing materials, tools, and equipment needed for overhead line work as well as act as a spotter for aerial linemen and equipment operators to ensure safety. As an entry-level position, this role requires teamwork, the ability to follow directions, and compliance with all safety standards. Work assignments involve frequent travel, performing daily physical activity, and adhering to all safety standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent. Company will provide industry training and certifications if not already secured.
  • Previous experience in performing manual labor outdoors or 1-2 years of aerial fiber optic installation and/or telecommunication construction preferred
  • Experience with trailer operations i.e. hauling and backing.
  • Valid driver’s license along with a clean Motor Vehicle Report
  • Possess a basic understanding of electrical or fiber optic work is advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints, as well as understand work assignments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with NESC (National Electrical Safety Commission) safety guidelines.
  • Capability to safely climb poles using climbing equipment.
  • Willingness to travel daily and adapt to various schedules, including participation in on-call duties during evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in handling small components and wires.
  • Capacity to work safely and navigate different terrains while managing equipment, safety gear, and tools.
  • Competence to work from ladders and in bucket trucks.
  • Ability to pull lashers, throw ropes, and pull cables.
  • Proven ability to accurately and efficiently follow detailed instructions while ensuring safety.
  • Effective communication skills in both one-on-one and group settings.
  • Competence in using electronic devices and technological tools in the field, including iPads, cameras, and GIS software, as well as using maps and navigation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Pass tools and provide general ground-level support to the crew.
  • Clear undergrowth and debris to ensure a clear path from the right-of-way using hand tools or saws.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order at job sites, including work zone setup and breakdown tasks.
  • Provide support by pulling and feeding cables, attaching hardware, and securing work areas.
  • Handle, transport, and organize tools, cables, poles, and hardware.
  • Assist in installing telecommunication fixtures.
  • Assist telecommunication line crew with: Setting and removing poles. Backfilling large ground holes left by telecommunication poles with dirt and shovels. Breaking concrete or rocks around utility poles (if required).
  • Assist with fiber lashing efforts from the ground level.
  • Operate and maintain ground-level equipment, such as bucket trucks, winches, and hoists.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Flag traffic (when certified) to protect employees and the public from potential harm or injury.
  • Assist with traffic control setup of signs and cones.
  • Act as a spotter for aerial linemen and equipment operators to ensure safety.
  • Follow all company safety guidelines to prevent workplace accidents and injuries.
  • Professionally interact with landowners to ensure clear communication and understanding of site activities.
  • Communicate effectively with the team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Qualified drivers may be required to drive a 3/4 ton, 1 ton, or larger pickup truck to the job site or to obtain supplies (vehicles may have connected trailers).
  • Available to work nights, be on-call, and willing to work overtime when required.
  • Willing to travel and work in all weather conditions.
