About The Position

If you are passionate about transforming communities with a mission-driven organization, then we have the opportunity for you! The Policy and Advocacy Intern will support the Global Refuge Policy and Advocacy Team and assist in the daily activities of Global Refuge's office in Washington, D.C. We're looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills and who's passionate about advancing our organizational mission. This is a part-time, paid internship opportunity for students pursuing a relevant undergraduate or advanced degree. Requirements

  • Students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program related to political science, government, international affairs, international relations, human rights, or other relevant topics.
  • Commitment to Global Refuge's core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
  • Commitment to empowering refugees and migrants.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrate professionalism.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with the refugee or immigrant community preferred (internship experience counts)
  • Prior advocacy experience preferred (internship experience counts)

Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings on legislation, coalition priorities, policy development, and constituent engagement, and provide reports to the office.
  • Engage Global Refuge networks and constituencies in advocacy efforts.
  • Research, analyze, and track legislative processes in U.S. Congress.
  • Draft memos, resources, and other written materials for internal or external dissemination.
  • Assist with planning for Global Refuge advocacy events.
  • Conduct research and policy analysis for written products such as reports, briefs, or blog posts.
  • Work with other Advocacy Team members and Global Refuge departments to assist in developing externally facing content.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
