About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Advocacy, the Advocacy Coordinator will support Global Refuge's Advocacy team and is responsible for providing administrative, logistical, and technical support for the team's daily office needs. The role will also provide supplemental research capacity for short, medium, and long-term projects across Global Refuge's policy portfolios. The Advocacy Coordinator is also responsible for managing the records pertaining to program expenditures and organizing the activities, events, and agenda for the for the department. From small project management to meeting and event planning, and working with internal and external partners, this is a critical role for a fast-paced and dynamic team. This role will also involve research, drafting, and editing capabilities. Global Refuge, formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), is a nonprofit serving newcomers seeking safety, support, and a share in the American dream. Requirements

  • College degree required; advanced degree encouraged.
  • Minimum of one year of administrative support and technical support experience in an office setting (or equivalent)
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and meet deadlines using discretion in confidential matters.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Can-do attitude and willingness to pitch into collective efforts.
  • Readiness to respond to legislative events as they happen, including pressing timelines that involve nights and weekends.
  • Demonstrated interest in US immigration policy and Global Refuge's mission.
  • Experience with and commitment to working in a diverse workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Provide administrative and logistical support for the Advocacy team, including meeting outreach and scheduling, event planning and coordination, agenda creation for activities and events, file organization, and note taking during internal and external global refuge meetings and events.
  • Coordinate high-level outreach to administrative agencies, congressional offices, and coalitions, support the planning and coordination of internal and external meetings, manage busy Outlook calendars, Salesforce and other reports, email listservs, and schedule virtual and in-person meetings in a fast-paced environment.
  • Facilitate engagements, including internal and external global refuge meetings, webinars, events, briefings, and support the overall coordination of the team's external engagement .
  • Receive, sort, compile, and summarize internal and external documents, reports, and resources, manage the overall organization of the department's shared OneDrive.
  • Manage the shared Outlook Advocacy inbox and professionally respond to inquiries on behalf of the global refuge advocacy team.
  • Submit the department's monthly expense reimbursement reports.
  • Manage research project responsibilities, in collaboration with Global Refuge colleagues and external partners.
  • Draft concept notes, proposals, summaries, citations, and other related research policy projects as assigned by the Manager of Advocacy.
  • Support research and development on issues related to immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied children, and relevant policy updates that emerge relating to priorities of the department.
  • Support Global Refuge's network of academic and practitioner partners on key policy initiatives and coordinate these efforts with Global Refuge's advocacy agenda.
  • Track policy developments and relevant studies using internal and external sources, including media, Congress.gov, academic sources, and Quorum.
  • Support the development of internal educational resources for the department and external resources shared with the Global Refuge network.
  • Create and provide technical support for Global Refuge-led calls, briefings, and webinars.
  • Edit and format external-facing policy products.
