About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for the Advisory & Planning Strategic Initiatives Lead to be champion transformative projects and strategic initiatives within our Advisory & Planning (A&P) Business Line and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of cities, guiding workforce development, and orchestrating high-profile events that elevate WSP’s brand and impacts across all-end markets. The Strategic Initiatives Lead activities will be externally focused including the developing and growing of key client relationships, the discovery of opportunities and delivering work across A&P, across all WSP end-markets, and maintaining a strong brand image for WSP in the USA within the industry. Internal responsibilities will focus on collaborating and partnering with all Business Line leadership to strengthen client relationships, drive positioning, teaming, and winning capture plans. Our ideal candidate is familiar with A&P's capabilities with strong connections to and knowledge about WSP's internal and external clients within each end-market in order to expand and grow our services across all end-markets. Our ideal candidate also has connections with both private and public clients across the various end-markets and can articulate the growth potential and opportunities they provide. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, engineering, business, or related field
  • Minimum 15 years of infrastructure consulting/management consulting experience, including at least five years of successful experience in developing client relationships and business development
  • Established relationships with key decision makers in public and private sectors, especially within urban and workforce domains.
  • Demonstrated experience leading by influence
  • Experience in leading and winning major strategic pursuits
  • Excellent communication skills (presenting and writing)
  • Organized, self-starter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead strategic growth initiatives such as major events, city-focused projects, bus rapid transit advisory services and workforce development programs that align with WSP’s vision for sustainable growth and community impact. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and deliver initiatives that address emerging trends and client needs.
  • Cultivate and expand relationships with key clients, city leaders, and workforce partners. Identify and pursue opportunities that position WSP as a leader in urban transformation, talent development, and event management.
  • Partner with leadership across Transportation & Infrastructure, Earth & Environment, Property & Buildings, Power & Energy, and Federal sectors to integrate strategic initiatives into broader business objectives.
  • Lead or advise on high-profile projects and programs, ensuring innovative solutions and best practices are applied to major events, city initiatives, and workforce strategies.
  • Mentor professionals within the company and support efforts to attract top talent, with a focus on building a diverse and future-ready workforce.
  • Monitor and analyze local, state, and national trends, policies, and legislation related to cities, workforce development, and event management. Advocate for WSP’s interests and proactively address industry changes.
