About The Position

Direct and control the administration of bodily injury, property damage, and serious or complex liability claims against or by our Company, including litigated and non-litigated claims, driving optimal outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience plus five (5) years’ experience adjusting bodily injury and/or property damage liability claims and litigation of moderately serious exposure and complexity
  • In-depth knowledge of contract, tort, damages, agency, subrogation, contribution/indemnity and other applicable/related law, as well as related terminology, concepts and practices
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
  • Ability to direct and control work of third-party administrators
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Excellent leadership, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and effectively manage changing priorities
  • Knowledge of Risk Management Information System and Statistical Data
  • Experience and ability to use Microsoft Office Software, including but not limited to; Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally and empathetically

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Company’s Third Party Administrator (TPA), in-house counsel, and outside legal counsel to develop litigation strategies including management of discovery and interrogatory responses. Participate in and lead claim strategy discussions focusing on early resolution in accordance with company settlement philosophy
  • Evaluate the exposure to the Company associated with complex litigated and non-litigated claims with significant financial and brand exposure. Decide the appropriate course of action to best protect the Company from undue loss and to mitigate associated costs through negotiation and settlement of such claims
  • Negotiate and resolve claims within the company’s deductible or self-insured retention with settlement authority up to $250,000 or with additional authority secured from management when needed. Authorize TPA reserves and settlements at established authority levels
  • Ensure TPA compliance with service instructions, reporting requirements (including excess notifications), and quality management standards. Escalate significant issues or trends to senior Risk Management leadership
  • Utilize metrics, dashboards, and claim analytics to identify focus files, monitor performance, and drive continuous program improvement
  • Respond to and/or direct TPA response to high-profile accidents and serious incidents, including after-hours coordination of scene investigations, engagement of defense counsel and independent experts, and timely communication to leadership
  • Serve as primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders on claim-related matters including pursuit of subrogation claims
  • Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
