About The Position

The Health Safety Security Advisor at South32's Hermosa Project plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees. This permanent position focuses on compliance with health, safety, and security programs, driving a proactive safety culture, and providing essential training and support to the workforce. The advisor will also engage in risk management and emergency response initiatives, contributing to a safe working environment in the mining sector.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in a health science discipline or related field.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977.
  • Seven years' experience in mine health and safety and five years' experience in occupational health and safety.
  • Completed MSHA certified trainer certificate or experience to meet requirements for certification.
  • Experience in application of modern safety practices in leadership and multi-layer risk management tools.
  • Ability to manage electronic management systems including report generation.
  • Track record in developing and applying contractor management systems including assurance tasks.
  • Ability to influence and gain trust of the Hermosa team and key stakeholders.
  • Experience in basic emergency management and incident investigations (ICAM preferred but not essential).
  • Proven history in construction and mining (underground).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation and ensure compliance of company health, safety and security programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.
  • Provide consultation and coaching to all employee groups to instill and maintain a proactive approach to safety.
  • Facilitate and participate in project induction processes aligned with project training schemes.
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct required Health, Safety and Security training to meet regulatory compliance and project emergency response mitigations.
  • Provide safety leadership by example, supporting project objectives in the field and developing positive relationships.
