About The Position

The Advisor Generalist - EOC Wasatch County at Utah Valley University is a part-time role focused on advising and supporting non-traditional students, particularly first-generation and low-income individuals. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree plus 2 years of experience; or a bachelor's degree; or any combination of education and experience totaling four years.
  • Experience working with non-traditional and diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of first-generation college student's life experiences and challenges.
  • Knowledge of programs and funding resources, specifically financial aid and scholarships.
  • Knowledge in working with adult learners entering education institutions and admissions processes.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Skills in problem-solving, decision-making, networking, and excellent interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and/or experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Proficient in Spanish or another secondary language.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Experience with first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with schools and community partners to identify opportunities to promote the program at local events and workshops.
  • Attends local events at least once a month to provide information about the program and educational opportunities available to low-income and first-generation individuals.
  • Develops presentations and workshops for community partners to promote educational and vocational opportunities.
  • Advises non-traditional students in group settings, helping to remove barriers related to post-secondary education and training applications, enrollments, FAFSA, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
