About The Position

At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world. We are seeking an informatician in immunology with an interest in analysis of different high-density data sets (omics layers). The successful candidate will have experience with the integration of multiple omics datasets to better characterize patient populations in autoimmune disease. The main biological focus will be autoimmune diseases that have sexual dimorphism, in particular, lupus. The candidate will also be expected to take a lead in more broadly applying sexual dimorphism approaches across the immunology therapeutic area and women’s health issues. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team and actively collaborate with scientists across immunology, other therapeutic areas, bioinformatics and statistics. The position will be located in San Diego.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, or a related discipline with demonstrated experience in multi-omics integration, immunology and at least 2 years post-doctoral experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands on experience doing computational work on large clinical datasets (>1,000 patients) with included patient meta data and multiple (3 or more) omics data types.
  • Proven ability to identify novel findings from large datasets, devise follow up analyses, and break down complexity into conclusions suitable for publication
  • Working experience in the R computational environment and high performance cloud based systems
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead informatics analyses, in particular translational clinical studies where multiple omics level datasets will be collected.
  • Initiate and oversee data generation from Lilly clinical trials to support both translational medicine initiatives and discovery biology.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on omics integration techniques to support internal programs and to instruct other informatics team members
  • Propose new studies where integration would be most beneficial to gain biological insights
  • Be a leader in autoimmune diseases with strong sexual dimorphism, in particular, SLE.
  • Lead efforts in the immunology therapeutic area to better understand biological complexities in women’s health and in particular in relation to autoimmune diseases
  • Identify and evaluate novel targets in immunology using internal clinical, genetics, proteomics, and RNA data, enriched with publicly available data sources

Benefits

  • Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
  • Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).
