About The Position

The Analytical Scientist Advisor at Lilly is a key member of the Global Analytical Sciences and Quality Control Operations (AQCO) team, responsible for conducting advanced analyses of drug substances and products, particularly those suspected of counterfeiting or tampering. This role involves utilizing mass spectrometry and other analytical techniques to support product investigations and develop authentication strategies for pipeline assets. The Advisor will ensure timely investigation and reporting of samples, contributing to Lilly's product protection strategy and supporting cross-functional business partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum B.S. in Analytical Chemistry or related scientific field.
  • 3+ years of recent bench experience in a laboratory environment, relating to mass spectrometry.
  • Deep technical expertise in separation sciences, spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry techniques.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of multiple instrument platforms and associated software platforms.
  • Ability to handle controlled substances.
  • Strong technical problem-solving ability both independently and as part of a team.
  • High attention to detail in all aspects of the work.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to perform structure elucidation on both small and large molecules.
  • Knowledge of Lilly systems such as NuGenesis (eLN), Quality Docs, SAP, SmartLab, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, self-sufficiently and pro-actively.
  • High learning agility and flexibility to achieve required outcomes.
  • Imaginative approach to problem solving and solution discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform LC-MS analyses of samples suspected to involve counterfeiting, tampering, or diversion.
  • Analyze LC-MS data and perform limited structure elucidation on both small and large molecules.
  • Collaborate with AQCO colleagues and other analytical SMEs to solve complex sample analyses.
  • Support special studies proposed by business partners (e.g., Global Security, Legal).
  • Develop and validate robust scientifically advanced methods to satisfy stakeholder needs.
  • Actively participate in mass spectrometry community/forums to maintain proficiency and expertise.
  • Troubleshoot issues with methods and/or equipment.
  • Support the technical agenda for pipeline and commercial assets.
  • Execute testing protocols in accordance with local procedure and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide training or mentorship to other AQCO colleagues or cross-functional team members.
