Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in academic counseling/advising in the field of education or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university and experience preferred.
  • Previous experience and/or desire to engage in non-traditional advisement delivery systems (including on-line advisement) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides academic advisement to students in all departments as needed including but not limited to via phone, e-mail, web/video-conferencing and in-person.
  • Acquaints students with general educational requirements, College regulations, services and opportunities.
  • Assists students as they make decisions related to career, program/major, and selection of courses.
  • Counsels students regarding the consequences of course withdrawal, insufficient progress, change of major, withdrawal from institution.
  • Assists students in evaluation or re-evaluation of progress toward established goals and educational plans.
  • Refers students to other institutional resources and services as appropriate.
  • Assists with the advisor training program and development of advising resources.
  • Participates in and provides administrative support for other programs and projects designed to promote student retention.
  • Evaluates Transfer credit in coordination with appropriate Department Chairperson.
  • Maintains records and generates reports relevant to the operation and evaluation of programs/projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and provides additional services that supplement the advising program as needed.
  • Some Evening and Weekend Hours required.
