About The Position

Under the direction of the Adventure Activities Director, the Adventure Activities Lead Staff supports the facilitation of climbing wall sessions, manages the Adventure Activities information desk, leads guided hikes on-site, and provides support to other staff facilitating adventure programs. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, engaging, and well-organized outdoor experiences for guests. This position supports the mission of the YMCA of the Rockies Estes Park Center, a family and group conference and retreat center serving approximately 150,000 guests annually. The Adventure Activities Lead Staff is primarily responsible for delivering high-quality guest service, maintaining safety standards, and fostering teamwork among adventure staff to create memorable guest experiences. Requirements

  • Must have current CPR certification (can be obtained during training).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Knowledge of Rocky Mountain National Park and surrounding areas is required.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with people of all ages.
  • Must pass a criminal background check meeting YMCA standards.
  • Availability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Prior facilitation experience is required.

  • Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards.

  • Requires frequent standing, walking, hiking on uneven terrain, climbing, and physical activity throughout the day.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights on climbing walls and challenge course elements, including performing rescues when necessary.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate program needs.
  • Position involves regular interaction with guests of all ages in dynamic, high-energy settings.
  • Must be able to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or high-pressure situations related to guest safety.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to guest inquiries regarding Adventure Activities and programs offered through the Boone Family Mountain Center.
  • Set up and tear down indoor and outdoor climbing walls.
  • Belay and facilitate sessions on both indoor and outdoor climbing walls.
  • Assist in the development and advancement of Adventure Activities programs.
  • Lead short guided hikes on the grounds.
  • Facilitate low ropes course activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures established by the YMCA of the Rockies.
  • Use computer systems to assist guests with activity enrollment and manage participant data before and after activities.
  • Handle cash and credit card transactions; operate cash registers to process deposits for borrowed equipment and merchandise sales.
  • Regularly check in with facilitators to provide support and guidance.
  • Develop and implement professional development sessions for Adventure Activities facilitators.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
