About The Position

Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership (Hurricane Island) is a transformative learning and research community running programming and research on Hurricane Island in Penobscot Bay, Maine. Our mission is to integrate scientific research and education on a Maine coastal island to develop leaders prepared to address environmental issues in a rapidly changing world. Our vision is to create a network of community leaders solving environmental problems creatively, scientifically, and collaboratively for the Gulf of Maine and beyond. Our research agenda focuses on answering local high priority questions and increasing scientific capacity regionally. We challenge students and researchers to create innovative solutions for a sustainable world, and by pursuing initiatives through the scientific process, we believe the knowledge gained will motivate communities to take action. The Advancement Specialist reports year round to the Advancement Director and is an integral support role ensuring the systems, structures, and functions of both fundraising and marketing efforts run smoothly while prioritizing the confidentiality of all donor information. A successful candidate must be well-organized, flexible, and able to function in a dynamic working environment. Additional responsibilities to what is described here may be required, as needed.
