About The Position

The Advancement Officer (AO) at Hood College plays a crucial role in driving fundraising efforts from individual donors, focusing on annual and leadership giving to support the college's priorities. The AO will manage a portfolio of approximately 100 donors and prospects, utilizing marketing and communications strategies to enhance donor engagement and fundraising success. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and may involve working evenings and weekends, as well as travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, with a successful track record in annual fund program design and implementation.
  • Management/supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Effective data-analysis skills, including the ability to synthesize wealth-screening data and track progress towards goals.
  • Strong marketing and communications skills, especially in message development and fundraising appeals.
  • Experience managing a fundraising portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Ability to lead in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new applications quickly.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to respond positively to inquiries from various stakeholders.
  • Proficient with statistical and financial concepts for tracking and goal setting.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and implement an annual giving marketing plan using direct mail, electronic communications, social media, and telemarketing.
  • Create segmentation of College constituents for targeted marketing to increase fundraising success.
  • Evaluate the annual giving program and recommend strategic revisions reflecting the College's strategic plan.
  • Manage the budget for the Annual Giving program and analyze cost-effectiveness and yield of program components.
  • Collaborate with Alumni Engagement staff to strengthen connections with alumni for ongoing financial support.
  • Direct the reunion-giving strategy and provide leadership to prospect managers working with individual classes.
  • Work with the Office of Marketing and Communications to create marketing materials to inspire support.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 President's Club donors and prospects capable of making yearly gifts of $3,000 - $10,000.
  • Conduct discovery, qualification, and stewardship visits with donors.
  • Identify giving patterns to assist with focused solicitations and marketing efforts.
  • Support a comprehensive management program that cultivates donors to higher levels of support.
  • Work with Prospect Researcher to conduct ongoing prospect research to refine the donor portfolio.
  • Maintain knowledge of major gifts and planned giving opportunities.
