About The Position

The Data Infrastructure Engineer serves as the primary architect and operator of the Foundation’s cloud-based data estate. As we transition from legacy on-premises custom applications to a unified cloud environment, you will be the architect of our “Single Source of Truth”, leading the critical migration of advancement data into Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Services. Working in close partnership with the stakeholders, this role focuses on the underlying platform reliability, security, and infrastructure engineering required to support high-level modeling. You will own the "plumbing" of the data lifecycle: architecting ingestion pipelines, implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), enforcing governance, and ensuring our donor and alumni records are refined, secure, and AI-Ready for consumption by the organization.

  • 3+ years in data engineering, with specific experience in Microsoft Fabric or modern Lakehouse architectures and experience with Ellucian CRM or high-volume fundraising data is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build the Modern Data Estate (Architecture & IaC)
  • Fabric Orchestration: Architect and manage the Microsoft Fabric OneLake, ensuring distinct storage strategies for raw, refined, and curated data.
  • Infrastructure Automation: Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools to programmatically deploy, configure, and manage Azure resources, ensuring environments are audit-ready and reproducible.
  • Pipeline Engineering & Legacy Modernization
  • Ingestion Architecture: Design and maintain scalable ELT/ETL pipelines to ingest data from Ellucian CRM Advance, and third-party services/sources.
  • Legacy Migration: Lead the infrastructure transition from the current on-prem dependent pipelines to modern, API-driven Azure integrations, eliminating single points of failure.
  • System Optimization: Tune the performance to ensure high-throughput processing for AI/ML workloads.
  • Governance, Security, & Identity
  • Security Architecture: Design and implement appropriate security mechanisms and encryption within the Azure environment to protect sensitive donor financial records.
  • Identity Management: Configure data layer access controls using Entra ID (Azure AD) to secure the data estate.
  • Compliance Enforcement: Implement data governance protocols to ensure platform architecture adheres to PCI and HIPAA regulatory requirements.
  • Site Reliability & Platform Operations
  • Observability: Build comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems to detect pipeline failures, ingestion latency, or data quality issues before they impact downstream business users.
  • SLA: Establish and maintain uptime standards for the data platform, serving as the primary technical escalation point for pipeline outages or Fabric service interruptions.
  • Platform Enablement: Manage the gateway infrastructure and semantic model availability for Power BI and Tableau, ensuring the hosting environment is stable for the Analytics team to build upon.
