About The Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking an Advanced Systems Engineer 1 with a strong hardware engineering focus to support the Payload Control System as well as provide hardware engineering support across multiple programs, including SWFTS. This position combines systems engineering responsibilities across the full development lifecycle with hands-on hardware evaluation, selection, and benchmarking of high-performance computing systems. The successful candidate will identify and resolve system design weaknesses, support accreditation and test activities, and drive hardware selection decisions by establishing vendor relationships, executing rigorous SWaP testing, and participating in technology insertion efforts. The ideal candidate works with minimal direction, drives tasks to closure, and is comfortable contributing to multiple programs simultaneously in a dynamic, mission-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Proficient understanding and application of systems engineering principles, concepts, and theories
  • Strong background in building, configuring, and troubleshooting computer systems and high-performance computing hardware
  • Experience running critical item tests and benchmarking systems using open-source tools
  • Proficient use of requirements management and systems modeling tools
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical findings and recommendations
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, manage multiple priorities, and drive tasks to closure
  • Skilled at establishing and managing vendor relationships
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools for documentation, analysis, and reporting
  • Awareness of business objectives and the role of engineering in achieving program goals
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Master's degree in a related field, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a required security clearance
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Agile experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting DoD programs preferred
  • Familiarity with government hardware qualification and accreditation processes is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses across the Payload Control System architecture
  • Develop system security documentation for both new and fielded information systems
  • Provide system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support
  • Generate technical engineering products using applicable standards, processes, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
  • Participate in requirements analysis, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration, and verification testing
  • Perform interface definition studies of system components and products
  • Research and analyze vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE/BFE, specifications, and technical manuals to determine design feasibility
  • Support the shaping of future Payload Control products by contributing to frameworks used across multiple systems
  • Lead hardware selection activities for the SWFTS program, evaluating options based on performance, cost, and program requirements
  • Build, configure, and validate computer systems for use in mission-critical environments
  • Design and execute critical item tests and benchmark high-performance computing systems using open-source tools
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships to solicit hardware samples and evaluate emerging technologies
  • Participate in technology insertion activities, identifying opportunities to refresh and improve program hardware
  • Collaborate with multiple programs to develop hardware test plans and evaluation criteria
  • Conduct Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) testing and analysis to provide programs with the data needed to make informed hardware selection decisions
  • Document test results and provide clear, actionable recommendations to program stakeholders
