Come make an impact every day at Zebra. As the Advanced Systems Engineer, you will participate in the product development process from concept to product launch. The emphasis will be on defining the solution that will be consistent with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for the design of the system and validating its integrity. Your contribution will ensure that the product at the sub-system and system level meets or exceeds performance targets, meets high quality standards, and will maintain performance targets under manufacturing process variation at high volume. As a Systems Engineer, you will act as a fulcrum between Program Management, Product Management, and discipline engineers (both hardware and software) during the product development phase. In addition, you will be writing requirements, defining test responsibilities for verification and validation, and navigating a team of interdisciplinary engineers through the technical aspects of product development, which includes technology integration, tradeoff analysis, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have experience with a requirements management tool like Polarion, JAMA or DOORs. The ideal candidate will also have experience in optical or radio frequency systems, or both. Location- Role is required to be onsite in Holtsville, NY office (Hybrid- Minimum of 3 days in the office per week).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ year experience or Masters degree and 4+ year experience
  • Experience developing a new hardware product, from concept phase to production and deployment required.
  • Experience in writing requriements required.
  • Demonstrated use of a requirements management tool like Polarion, JAMA, DOORs, or equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven track record of soft skills to lead by influence and drive decision-making with sound reasoning undergirded by quantifiable data highly preferred.
  • Developing programs from concept to production and deployment highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of camera technologies: optics, sensors, ISPs, & image-processing chains highly preferred AND/OR experience with radio frequency based sensing and detection systems, such as RFID and radar.

  • Drives cost review of project's bills of material.
  • Develops and applies technical and quality improvements.
  • Creates new programs, technologies and solutions based on novel or unique ideas.
  • Ensures new ideas and methodologies are documented for use by development teams
  • Uses status as a knowledge leader in system design and functional knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines and program management to provide technical leadership to a given program
  • Defines requirements for and may design complex new tools to aid in the analysis and solving of complex problems
  • Initiates cross-company collaboration and develops positive relationships with other engineering disciplines
  • Exercises judgment (within broadly defined policies and practices) in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • May coordinate the activities of other personnel
  • Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
  • Interacts with management and senior customer personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.
  • Represent the organization as the principal customer contact and often performs project leadership
