About The Position

This is an Advanced Structural Design Engineer position based in our Honeywell LNG Headquarters located in Allentown, PA. This position will contribute to the LNG Mechanical Design Engineering (MDE) - External Engineering team. As a member of the LNG MDE External Engineering team, you will be accountable for all Civil and Structural engineering aspects of LNG Equipment design. You will be responsible for supporting a complex and dynamic LNG equipment business by working across all engineering disciplines, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project specifications. The person in this role will complete engineering analyses and calculations for structural steel platforms, ladders, railings, and module steel frames related to LNG Coil Wound Heat Exchangers, other Pressure Vessels, Cold Boxes, and Modularized Liquefaction Equipment. Other duties will include checking and approving of detailed design drawings created by others, reviewing customer specifications, participating in internal and external model review meetings, and supporting heat exchanger design work, bid activities, continuous improvement, manufacturing activities, customer liaison, and field work. The position requires occasional domestic and international travel.

Requirements

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel design and analysis.
  • Professional Engineering license or the ability to obtain licensing within 1 year of employment.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software, preferably STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition.
  • Experience in structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
  • Strong knowledge of AISC Steel Construction Manual, ASCE 7 standard (i.e., Wind and Seismic), IBC, ASTM standards, AWS welding standards, and other international standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Structural Engineering analysis tools such as STAAD.Pro CONNECT.
  • Proficiency in MathCad and Microsoft Office Tools.
  • Knowledge of Dynamic analysis techniques and software.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSYS.
  • Ability to navigate a 3D CAD model in software such as Hexagon Smart 3D and Review.
  • Experience with other CAD applications such as SolidWorks or MicroStation is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) is a plus.
  • Collaborative individual capable of working productively in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently and efficiently in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes, project specifications, standards (such as AISC, IBC, ASCE, ASTM), engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
  • Generate designs for industrial plant structures, platforms, ladders, railings, pipe supports, and modularized equipment including cryogenic cold boxes.
  • Review customer/EPC specifications, industrial standards, and regulatory requirements to align scope of supply during project bid phase.
  • Function as the lead Structural Design Engineer on projects from conceptual phase through project execution.
  • Champion the implementation of modern technology and continuous improvement of work processes.
  • Review and approve project deliverables while ensuring compliance with internal specifications, standards, project specifications, and industry practices.
  • Participate in model review meetings within LNG team and with EPCs/Customers (e.g., 30%, 60% & 90%).
  • Maintain internal specifications, standards, work instructions, templates and job aids pertaining to structural engineering work.
  • Collaborate with other members within the team such as Structural Designer, Piping Designer, Pipe Stress Engineer, Pressure Vessel Engineer, and Pressure Vessel Designer.
  • Participate in plant visits occasionally and international field repair trips, as assigned.
