About The Position

The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking an APP or PA who will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team by providing medical and psychological services to children and young adults in the Center for Disabilities and Development. In accordance with scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, regulations, institutional policies and practice agreements, the position will independently conduct comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history, physical assessments, establish medical and psychiatric diagnoses, order and evaluates developmental, behavioral, and diagnostic studies, and develop treatment plans. This position will be required to work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. This position may be eligible for a transition and relocation allowance.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
  • Certification as Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care (PNP-PC) & Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) is preferred.
  • Current ARNP license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in the clinical care of pediatrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with indirect supervision, critical thinking/problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Federal DEA license.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child and adolescent psychiatry and or developmental pediatrics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in mental health.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ambulatory care.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (DNP)

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and documents a comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
  • In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute, and complex care of patients and manages patient's overall care, initiates appropriate referrals and consultations, and identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
  • Orders, performs, interprets, and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
  • Prescribes therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical/procedural, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
  • Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within specialty scope of practice.
  • Facilitates the patient's transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Participates in departmental educational conferences and clinical care meetings.
  • Accurately and appropriately complete documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR) and other records for compliance, billing, and other regulatory standards.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested/assigned.
