About The Position

The Advanced Product Development (APD) Systems Staff Engineer will lead elements of the systems design and development for an Edison Works New Product Introduction (NPI) program as an experienced technical expert in Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) and Turbine Rear Frame (TRF) Hardware Systems Engineering. This is the systems integration and design of the multi-stage Low Pressure Turbine and adjacent Turbine Rear Frame of the engine. This role supports the overall Hot Section (HS) system and design, with the Hot Section Leader. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring in the areas of systems engineering, mechanical and/or thermal design fundamentals, test, producibility, and engine certification/qualification. This is a role for someone with established technical and programmatic engineering skills who not only understands how to increase their impact by building the capabilities of the team but can also 'lead by doing.' This position includes the opportunity to integrate with various internal & external engineering disciplines. This position will impact engineering approaches, projects, and programs in the functional area or affected business organization. As well as impacts quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the team, and has significant input into priorities. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or higher) from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in an engineering position.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with Engine Systems Engineering.
  • Must obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.
  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain 'Advanced Programs' access.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Expert in MBSE and ensure all interfaces, test plans, and qualification plans are accurately and completely mapped to components and modeled without error in the MBSE digital model.
  • Demonstrated expertise in military jet engine design, specifically LPT and TRF component design and system design, including testing and certification of this hardware.
  • Experience with finite element analysis using Ansys, Nastran, or equivalent.
  • Expertise with NX software or equivalent CAD software.
  • Certification in or background with Material Review Board (MRB) engineering support.
  • Experience with engine/aircraft maintainability and reliability.
  • Experience with design quality assurance.
  • Experience working with DoD customer and processes.
  • Experience working in DoD EVM projects, established project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of the LPT and TRF within the engine system design using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.
  • Conduct component and product integration, managing product and systems requirements, specifications, and flow down.
  • Drive validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing.
  • Define product requirements for the module/component/subcontractors and partners teams.
  • Manage interface between components and execution organizations.
  • Drive CTQ/Risk trades within the teams designing the components.
  • Manage the overall product configuration and configuration control system.
  • Develop specialized knowledge in their discipline and serve as a best practice/quality resource.
  • Contribute towards strategy and policy development, ensuring delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and may lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.
