About The Position

Provides appropriate services to prevent, evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental, addictive, and emotional disorders within knowledge, the scope of practice and under the supervision of a physician as required. Uses knowledge of biological, psychological, and social factors to identify and design a person-centered treatment plan with clients as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Performs, analyzes, and documents findings for mental health and substance abuse assessments and interventions as appropriate for specialty training and population served. Provides consultation and education regarding diagnosis and treatment to clients, agency staff, caregivers, and community partners. Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists are examples of Advanced Practitioners. This position includes eligibility for a monthly performance bonus.

Requirements

  • Physician Assistant Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current and continued certification by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current unrestricted licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Colorado.
  • Active DEA Registration Certification by state date.
  • Ability to become credentialed with various health insurance companies.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Graduate of an accredited graduate nursing program approved by the Colorado State Board of Nursing.
  • Current and continued certification by an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Specialist certification body (AANP or ANCC).
  • Current and continued certification as an Adult Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse (PMHNP-BC or PMHCNS-BC).
  • Current unrestricted nursing licenses in the State of Colorado: Registered Nurse APN- Nurse Practitioner or APN-Clinical Nurse Specialist Provisional full Prescriptive Authority Active DEA Registration Certification.
  • Ability to become credentialed with various health insurance companies.
  • Current active listing in the Colorado Advanced Practice Registry and follows those requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Educational focus on psychiatric treatment preferred.
  • Current and continued Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Psychiatry through the NCCPA is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate clients for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
  • Diagnose disorders, including nature and extent, and determine the appropriate course of treatment with the client.
  • Order laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluate data obtained.
  • Prescribe, follow up, and review all prescribed medications using the electronic health record.
  • Review all non-psychiatric medical orders and prescriptions.
  • Responsible for the evaluation and/or referral of clients’ medical conditions.
  • Coordinate with clients’ PCP to provide continuity of care.
  • Provide comprehensive and effective education to clients, family members, and/or other involved parties in relation to common disease processes, medication (purpose, dosages, side effects, etc.), and/or prescribed treatment regimens, and document clients’ level of comprehension.
  • Whenever possible, ensure clients are provided with written educational materials.
  • Provide consultation, education, and coordination of services to community agencies and citizens as requested.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Collaborate with and provide consultation to other members of a multi-disciplinary team (i.e., Psychiatrists, Nurses, Clinicians, Case Managers, Program management, etc.) regarding assessment, diagnosis, and treatment options for clients.
  • Complete all required documentation legibly and/or within electronic health records, by established time frames, and to accepted standards of practice; confirm coding of services rendered is ethically appropriate and results in successful billing.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by supporting agency collection policies and procedures; assure client understanding of service charges and fee changes.
  • Work proactively with payor sources to ensure payment of services; align services with payor authorizations and/or request authorization prior to provision of service.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility when prescribing, understanding, and minimizing impacts to clients (i.e., formulary lists, gaining prior authorization, etc.).
  • Achieve agency standards for kept appointment rates, provision of direct billable services, and other standards as applicable.
  • May maintain primary responsibility for oversight and psychiatric management of acute treatment unit to include daily rounding on business days and weekend rounding/coverage as assigned.
  • May be assigned on-call responsibilities for acute care and crisis response units to meet client and facility needs.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the agency’s medical treatment programs, department goals and objectives, and evaluation of the programs provided.
  • Attending committee meetings, staff meetings, and inter-agency meetings as required.
  • Participate in qualifying assurance, education, and professional committees assigned by the Medical Director.
  • May supervise and/or provide oversight of other medical staff.
  • Comply with all county, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to behavioral health care.
