About The Position

GW’s wound care program supports patients across a multidisciplinary limb preservation model—built to reduce amputations and streamline complex care (vascular, plastics, podiatry/ortho, infectious disease, wound experts, and more). Our Wound Care Services leadership is deeply integrated into hospital quality and pressure injury prevention efforts, reflecting a strong outcomes- and standards-driven culture. The Wound Care APP (NP/PA) provides advanced clinical evaluation and management of patients with acute and chronic wounds. This role partners with physicians, nurses, and specialty teams to drive healing outcomes, reduce complications (including pressure injuries), and ensure safe transitions of care. The APP functions as a clinical leader within an academic, consult-driven, and patient-centered environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited NP program
  • Active DC RN + APRN/NP license (or ability to obtain)
  • National certification in an appropriate population focus (role dependent)
  • BLS (AHA)
  • DEA/prescriptive authority (or ability to obtain)
  • Graduate of an accredited PA program
  • NCCPA certification (PA-C)
  • Active DC PA license (or ability to obtain)
  • BLS (AHA)
  • DEA (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong clinical background in wound care or closely related areas (vascular, surgery, medicine, podiatry, plastics, ID) in a complex setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Wound certifications: CWS / WCC / CWCN-AP (or commitment to obtain)
  • Limb preservation / diabetic foot ulcer management experience
  • Familiarity with data-driven documentation and wound measurement tools
  • Academic medical center experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform wound assessments, including cause, stage, infection risk, perfusion, pain, and related conditions.
  • Treat complex wounds such as pressure injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, venous or arterial ulcers, surgical wounds, trauma wounds, and ostomy issues.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for topical care, compression, offloading, NPWT, and escalation.
  • Collaborate with teams like Vascular Surgery, Plastics, Podiatry/Ortho, Infectious Disease, Nursing, Nutrition, PT/OT, and Case Management.
  • Help prevent pressure injuries through rounds, risk checks, education, and quality initiatives.
  • Document in EMR, support imaging and measurement workflows.
  • Educate patients and families, plan discharges, and coordinate follow-up care.
