About The Position

Provides medical and procedural services for patients in the inpatient unit in collaboration with the attending physician/hospitalist. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Practices health promotion, health supervision, illness prevention and diagnosis, treatment, and management of common health problems and acute and chronic conditions including assessing patients, ordering diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, synthesizing and analyzing data, and applying advanced nursing principles. May perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in collaboration with the attending physician. Complies with all Nebraska statutes and regulations related to nurse practitioners. Assists with research projects, as needed. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds. Works collaboratively with nursing staff, respiratory therapy staff, other departments to promote quality and safe patient care. Provides input to policy/procedure development. Participates in performance improvement activities. Promotes professionalism within the healthcare team, other departments, families and patients. Requirements

  • APRN Master’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Licensed as an APRN-Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska prior to start date required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • PALS certification required.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • Prior working knowledge of using a personal computer and electronic medical records required.
  • PA Bachelor's of Science degree and graduate of an AMA approved Physician's Assistant program required.
  • Current Certification by the National Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.
  • Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Nebraska upon start required.
  • Current BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications required.
  • Prior working knowledge of using a personal computer and electronic medical records required.
  • Demonstrate competence in providing direct patient care and patient and family education.
  • Communicate with patients, families and staff, and collaborate with other members of the health care team to enhance care.
  • Make assessments and problem solve.
  • Keep complete accurate records of all events and results of patient encounters in a timely manner.
  • Be a strong patient advocate.
  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.
  • Requires moving, lifting a minimum of 50 pounds of force occasionally (34-66%) and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects (0-33%).
  • Requires turning and positioning patients properly to avoid injury.
  • Requires walking and standing most of the time while on duty.
  • Possesses audible acuity necessary for taking blood pressures and maintaining patient safety.
  • Possesses visual acuity necessary for reading charts, forms, communications, administering medications and patient assessments.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a pediatric critical care setting preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a pediatric acute care setting preferred.
