About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to join our team on a PRN basis GENERAL DESCRIPTION This is very responsible work delivering health care services. The Nurse Practitioner will be expected to conduct a history and physical for consumers assessing eligibility for medication assisted treatment interventions. The employee will prescribe appropriate medications and monitoring consumer progress toward treatment goals. All work performed must be documented in the consumer record. This employee performs work with independence within established medical standards of practice under a practice agreement with the medical director/physician. Work is under the general review of an administrative superior who reviews work for conformance with established agency policies and procedures, leaving considerable latitude for independent judgment and discretion.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of general medicine
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacology used in treating persons detoxifying from substances
  • Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of alcohol and other drug intoxication and withdrawal
  • Knowledge of appropriate treatment and monitoring of alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal
  • Skill in applying medical care to persons detoxifying from substances including appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Ability to direct the work of nursing staff
  • Ability to provide medical consultation and effective response in crisis; to act decisively when necessary to protect patients
  • Ability to make and apply decisions in accordance with professional regulations and policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain an empathetic attitude toward physically ill clients
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with hospital staff, supervisors, local officials, and the general public
  • Ability to assist, and exercise tact, patience, and understanding of others
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Ability to perform with autonomy or with minimum direction
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak in the English language
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and recognized and licensed by the Missouri State Board of Nursing as an advanced practice nurse.
  • Have and maintain a current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Missouri
  • Maintain a collaborative practice agreement with the medical director under contract that complies with all practice requirements of the State of Missouri
  • No candidate may be considered for employment who is, or has been for the past two (2) years under the supervision of Federal, State, County or Municipal Corrections Department nor have any pending felony or misdemeanor charges other than minor traffic charges.
  • All candidates for employment must meet the established minimum qualifications for employment as identified by the applicable regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Remains alert during working hours; attends work as scheduled, and complies with attendance policies.
  • Conducts diagnostic assessment and identifies health risk factors as it relates to treating substance use disorders.
  • Makes appropriate referrals for care to address consumer needs that are outside the scope of work for Heartland Center for Behavioral Change.
  • Establishes consumer eligibility for medication assisted treatment by completing a history and physical, ordering laboratory testing as appropriate, and prescribing medications to address substance use disorders for consumers interested in medication assisted treatment options.
  • Develops medical care plan; directs and monitors patient progress; reviews patient records and directly observes patients, ensuring appropriate interventions that contribute to care are implemented
  • Documents assessments, diagnosis, patient care, observations and interventions that contribute to care in the consumer record.
  • Maintains confidentiality of consumers in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
