About The Position

The Division of Surgical Oncology within the Daughtry Family Department of Surgery consists of a group of 10 physicians and staff associates who are dedicated to providing compassionate state of the art medical care and to advancing medical knowledge. We specialize in the management of patients with surgically treatable diseases. The ARNP position will be responsible for facilitating the surgical practice of the 10 practitioners. This practice combines both benign and malignant disease as well as many complicated surgical oncology problems. Some of the specific roles of the nurse practitioner will be to assist the physician in seeing patients in the clinic in order to facilitate patient care, seeing patient consultations within the hospital setting, answering patient phone calls, and providing postoperative care in the office and hospital setting with the additional assistance of setting up home health care needs for our patients. In general, the advanced registered nurse practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse qualified by graduate education and clinical experience to assist in the management of specialty areas including clinical practice, consultation, administration, education, and research. The surgical oncology ARNP will be expected to contribute to the mission of the academic clinical excellence at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Requirements

  • A Master degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing is required as well as a current and valid Florida ARNP license.
  • BLS certification is also required.
  • A minimum one year of experience and clinically related practice but preferably 1 to 4 years of specialized experience treating patients with surgical oncology problems is expected.
  • Experience in clinical care coordination to move patients quickly, safely, and efficiently in our present healthcare system is also required for this position.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for this position.
  • A proven track record of building relationships with physicians with direct reporting to key staff and patients would also be necessary for this position.
  • Knowledge of an ability to apply professional medical principles procedures and techniques will also be required.

  • Bilingual English/ Spanish is strongly preferred.
