About The Position

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APRN examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Valid State of Florida APRN License.
  • 2 years of relevant experience is preferable.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience as an APRN, preferably in OB/GYN or oncology.
  • Must be credentialed to practice by Hospital Medical Board.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.
  • Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Acts as a provider for daily patient care, including admissions, assessments, treatment plans, and discharges.
  • Conducts daily inpatient rounds independently or with the GYN Oncologist.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates medical care plans.
  • Manages acute and chronic gynecologic oncology issues.
  • Coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges of GYO patients.
  • Communicates and collaborates with surgical teams, medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, and other specialties.
  • Participates in tumor boards and care planning meetings as needed.
  • Ensures continuity of care during transitions (e.g., post-op to step-down unit, hospital to outpatient).
  • May perform bedside procedures such as pelvic exams, wound care, I&Ds, and catheter placement.
  • Assists in surgical follow-up and post-operative management.
  • Completes timely documentation in the EMR including H&Ps, progress notes, orders, and discharge summaries.
  • Provides education and counseling to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
  • Addresses patient concerns, symptoms, and side effects management.
  • Serves as a point of contact for in-hospital issues and questions.
  • Precepts or mentors APRN/PA students or new hires as needed.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff and provides clinical guidance and education.
