About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Cardiac ICU team at Orlando Regional Medical Center. The ideal candidate will possess advanced clinical expertise and a comprehensive understanding of complex cardiac conditions, including cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support (MCS), left ventricular assist devices (LVAD), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and cardiac surgery pre- and post-operative care. Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Graduate of accredited nurse practitioner program with a Master’s Degree and completion of a board certification if graduated after July 2006. New hires and Team Members placed in this job after May 1, 2021 must obtain acute care certification.
  • Physician Assistant
  • Graduate of accredited physician assistant program.
  • New hires and Team Members placed in this job after May 1, 2021 must obtain acute care or critical care fellowship program.
  • ARNP license in the state of Florida.
  • Maintains current ACLS and BLS.
  • Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) Certificate, or obtain the FCCS certification within 6 months of hire if preapproved by the Physician Director of Critical Care Services
  • Current licensure in State of Florida renewed every two years.
  • Maintains current ACLS and BLS.
  • Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) Certificate, or obtain the FCCS certification within 6 months of hire if preapproved by the Physician Director of Critical Care Services
  • Minimum one (1) year experience as fully licensed/ independent CVICU Critical Care APP (non-cardiac ICU APP would be considered) -or-
  • Successful completion of a one (1) year Critical Care Fellowship
  • New Grads and Novice APPs without required experience mentioned above will not be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with ECMO, Impella, Ballon Pump, and Post Cardiothoracic Surgery patient populations highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct clinical services for critically ill patients according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based clinical practice standards
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with acute cardiac conditions, including cardiogenic shock, MCS devices, LVAD, and ECMO.
  • Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care for cardiac surgery patients.
  • Monitor and interpret diagnostic tests and data, including echocardiograms, lab results, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Prescribes medication using evidence-based medicine and clinical judgement, magage vasopressors and inotropic support for critically ill patients
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the advanced heart failure, cardiology, and cardiac surgery teams.
  • Perform procedures such as central line insertion, PAC insertion, arterial line placement, intubation, chest tubes, paracentesis, thoracentesis, etc.
  • Participate in daily rounds and contribute to care planning and decision-making processes.
  • Performs advanced cardiac life support. In a medical emergency, the nurse practitioner will act on behalf of the supervising medical staff member to maintain life support until a licensed physician arrives to manage the patient
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding patient status, treatment plans, and discharge planning.
  • Stay current with advancements in cardiac critical care and integrate new knowledge into clinical practice.
  • Embodies professionalism through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, ethical decision making and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
