About The Position

This APP will be utilized in an independent role in the Community Oncology Moncrief clinic (outpatient) seeing surveillance patients who have completed their active oncolytic therapy and are within 5 years of diagnosis/treatment. This APP will also provide cross coverage for medical oncology. This APP will also cover PIA (provider in attendance) role which is required for patients to receive chemotherapy on site. In clinic, this APP will see established patients who are on surveillance, also assist with patients active systemic therapy (chemotherapy/immunotherapy), and same days visits for symptom management. Long-term the APP will improve access on the MD template for new patients by utilizing the APP template for patients undergoing long term surveillance. This is a new position to help with the survivorship initiatives and 2/3rd of the clinical time spent with this APP will be seeing surveillance patients who are beyond the active chemo or immunotherapy part of their care and until 5 years out from that time.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
  • Graduate of a Master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Acute Care Certification required.
  • Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideal candidates will have 2-3+ years of hematology or oncology and/or both, chemotherapy and infusion experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
