About The Position

St. Joseph Hospital, located in Bethpage NY, is a not-for-profit full service, 203-bed, community hospital that plays a paramount role in its communities. The Emergency Department cares for over 34,000 patients a year. The hospital has achieved disease specific certification for its Stroke Program which is designated by NYS as a Gold Plus Center. Other vital services include the St. Francis Imaging Center at St. Joseph Hospital, a state-of-the-art cardiac CT scanner, MRI, Vascular Laboratory, Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine, Center for Sleep Medicine, Center for Swallowing, Speech & Voice, and comprehensive in-patient medical, critical care and surgical services. St. Joseph Hospital also takes great pride in its extensive community outreach programs i.e. diabetes education, support groups, pet therapy, health fairs, teddy bear clinics and lecture series are only a few.

Requirements

  • Completion of a course of study in an Accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • An unrestricted license as a Physician Assistant in the State of New York.
  • Two years of clinical experience as a Medical Physician Assistant.
  • Completion of the Fundamental of Critical Care Course or equivalent within 6 months of hire.
  • Maintain BLS and ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • The House PA/NP will function as support to the Medical Staff of St. Joseph Hospital by facilitating the evaluation and treatment of patients in the hospital.
  • The House Staff will respond to requests to evaluate patients from the Members of Medical Staff and other members of the hospital clinical staff.
  • Patients will be evaluated and treatment initiated in cooperation with the appropriate treating physician.
  • The physician assistant will assist in the compliance with quality of care metrics and be an advocate for excellent patient care while promoting service excellence at all times.
  • The House Staff is expected to provide hospital wide coverage to the nursing units on a 24 hour a day, seven day per week basis.
