About The Position

The Texas Behavioral Health Center (TBHC) is a newly completed state-funded psychiatric hospital opening in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District that is owned by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center. When fully operational, the 505,000-square-foot facility will house 292 beds – 200 for adult patients and 92 for children and adolescents. As DFW’s first state-funded behavioral health hospital, it is designed to deliver state-of-the-art, patient-centered care in a modern and healing environment. The center provides comprehensive behavioral health treatment and features private patient rooms, abundant access to natural light and nature, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote recovery. The hospital will also provide training to all behavioral health disciplines. Texas Behavioral Health Center (TBHC) is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide on-site care for patients admitted to our facility. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play a key role in evaluating and managing patients’ psychiatric and behavioral health needs, conducting comprehensive assessments, and coordinating care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary behavioral health team. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts, 8: 00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. no holidays. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have a strong background as a psychiatric APP, with preferred experience in forensic, correctional, or institutional settings. Candidates should be comfortable working with complex and underserved patient populations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. OR
  • Graduate of a Master's degree or higher. Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. OR
  • Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. AND
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
