About The Position

Advanced Practice Provider cares for patients with both medical and behavioral health problems. Provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management services to patients of Variety Care, following the standards of the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), other payors, and regulatory agencies, and at the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, Behavioral Health, or supervising physician.

Requirements

  • Completed an Advanced Practice Provider accredited educational program.
  • Recognition as a Psych Certified APRN by the Board of Nursing, or a Certified Physician Assistant by the Board of Medicine.
  • Be licensed or eligible to obtain a license immediately to practice in Oklahoma.
  • A desire to serve patients and be self-motivated. You must have a good bedside manner and the ability to make decisions in emergencies.
  • Ability to make quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team, interfacing with patients, primary care providers, consulting psychiatrist, and mental health specialists, as well as with administrative and support staff.
  • Ability to exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, and to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a calm, consistent and equitable manner.
  • Ability to effectively represent company’s interests in the community and maintain effective working relationships among coworkers, public, private and professional groups.
  • Experience working with limited resource population.
  • Ability to work with grace under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
  • Three or more years of prior work experience a plus, but other experience and new graduates may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Assists primary health care providers in recognizing and treating mental disorders and psychosocial problems.
  • Assesses the clinical status of patients referred by primary care providers through brief consultative contacts.
  • Works with primary care team to treat and manage patients with chronic emotional and/or health problems efficiently and effectively.
  • Assists in the detection of at-risk patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
  • Assists in preventing relapses or morbidity in conditions that tend to recur over time.
  • Utilizes appropriate laboratory tests using prescribed methods and techniques; determines normal and abnormal test results; and develops a health care plan based upon analyzed data.
  • Defines/documents differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnoses included.
  • Complete all required documentation in electronic medical record according to deadlines/guidelines set forth by payers, Chart Closure SOP, and Chief Medical Office, Behavioral Health.
  • Secures health histories from patients and notate findings and treatment course in patient electronic health chart including follow-up notes.
  • Under direct and indirect supervision of a physician, diagnoses, plans and implements a comprehensive care plan based upon the patient’s mental health needs.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and quality improvement activities as required.
  • Serves as a member of committees as requested.
  • Participates in evaluation of peers and support staff.
  • Assists in planning and providing in-service training as needed.
  • Follows HIPAA guidelines and Variety Care policy and procedures as it relates to privacy.
  • Provides Telehealth services from remote locations connected to a reliable internet resource including a provider’s home when necessary.

Provide leadership and work with all staff to achieve the goals of the “Quintuple Aim” of healthcare reform—to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs.
