About The Position

Join the University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for our Outpatient Abdominal Transplant Team. Requirements

  • Masters of Science in Nursing for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration.
  • Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC or AANP.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers.
  • At least 1 year of surgical management experience preferred for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Completion of an accredited (physician assistant) educational program for Physician Assistants.
  • Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure/registration.
  • At least 1 year of surgical management experience preferred for Physician Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Taking patient history, conducting examinations, and diagnosing illnesses.
  • Performing pre- and post-transplant patient evaluations and ordering and interpreting laboratory tests.
  • Independently managing surgical wounds, including wound packing, suture and staple removal, wound vac application, and treatment of surgical complications.
  • Demonstrating strong collaboration and communication skills within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Maintaining proficiency and organization in patient assessments, diagnostic interpretations, clinical interventions, and healthcare planning.
  • Utilizing effective problem-solving skills to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
