The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery has multiple openings for Physician Assistants to work strictly in the OR. The program you will be joining is one of the largest, most experienced cardiac and thoracic surgery groups in the world, our Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery cares for patients from all 50 states and around the world. Our surgeons offer virtually every type of cardiac surgery including elective or emergency surgery for heart valve disease, aortic aneurysm, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, Marfan syndrome and other less common conditions. This program also includes heart/lung transplants. You will perform in the first assist role alongside the surgeon and/or fellow/senior resident in cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. Within the role you will first assist in various duties during the surgical procedure such as coronary anastomosis, vein harvesting, suturing, etc. A review of the perioperative data for each case performed with Staff surgeons is an expectation in this role. There is a nine to twelve month orientation for this position. There are a variety of shifts to be offered including; 4-10 hour shifts, 3-13 hour shifts, and 2-8’s/2-12’s. Candidate must be flexible and willing to work variable shifts depending on the departments need. This position is open to new licensed graduates with an OR rotation preferably in Cardiothoracic Surgery. APRN: Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions in collaboration with a physician according to a standard care arrangement and specialty certification. Provides advanced nursing care to patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions, including the delivery of acute care services. PA: Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and or specialty medical care (the practice of medicine) in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions the collaboration agreement of a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730) performs complete histories and physicals on patients of all ages to establish and record patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan to provide continuing medical care, including daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, discharging patients and completing discharge summaries. This medical care may be in a variety of clinical settings. PA's are privileged by the Board of Governors. PA's in this role provide advanced care to patients with in any setting in which patients require complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions. Practice in a setting that requires complex monitoring and therapies and high intensity medical/surgical interventions and/or continuous vigilance within the range of high-acuity care.
