About The Position

UVA EPCC UVA Family Medicine is searching for a Primary Care Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to provide comprehensive primary care to patients in our UVA Employee Primary Care Clinic (EPCC). The APP will work as a member of UVA Family Medicine and will be evaluating and treating employees for acute and chronic care management, providing reproductive health assessment and management, and performing minor procedures. UVa employees represent a diverse population which includes non-English speaking patients ages 18-year-old and up. The clinic is in the West Complex of UVA Medical Center. The clinic schedule is 8am - 5pm Mon-Fri. The qualifying candidate will work 8 clinic sessions and will have 2 administrative sessions which will be determined at time of hire. 1 year of APP experience is needed with 2+ years of APP clinical experience is preferred for consideration.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree as an Advance Practice Provider - Nurse Practitioner or as an Advance Practice Provider - Physician Assistant.
  • One to two years minimum experience as an Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.
  • License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
  • If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of the UVA Medical Center, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and the appropriate certifying bodies.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current PALS/NRP, as required specific to position.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of APP clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care through telehealth or in-person visits, including assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of acute and chronic health concerns.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications for acute and chronic health concerns in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
  • Educate patients about acute and chronic health conditions, associated health risks, and available treatment options, fostering patient self-management and adherence to treatment plans.
  • Utilize telehealth platforms, conducting virtual consultations, and ensuring patient safety and privacy.
  • Apply evidence-based principles and guidelines for illness treatment and management, staying updated on the latest research and clinical recommendations.
  • Independently and in collaboration with physician(s) and interdisciplinary team members, provide comprehensive clinical and organizational direction and leadership to the healthcare provider team in the care of patients.
  • Perform comprehensive history and physical assessment.
  • Document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
  • Order and interpret the appropriate diagnostic labs and tests.
  • Form medical diagnoses based on history, assessment and diagnostic findings.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate treatment plans.
  • Prescribe and recommend pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Initiate appropriate specialty consultations referrals when requisite.
  • Initiate and evaluate clinical pathways and protocols.
  • Collaborate with Attendings and/or Fellows regarding admissions and community transfers.
  • Facilitate the timely flow of patients via collaboration with interdisciplinary team members and support all interdisciplinary relationships.
  • Recognize acute/emergent situations requiring immediate responsiveness and initiate life-saving interventions, alerting the interdisciplinary team members for assistance.
  • Advocate for patients and family members in educational needs, treatment options, participation in care and ethical issues and patient rights with recognition and consideration of the diverse needs of the individual/family.
  • Provide consultation in specialty area.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Coordinate meeting applicable clinical standards for all disciplines in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient families, staff and students.
  • Perform designated procedures after demonstrated competency.
