About The Position

Orlando Health Medical Group (OHMG) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner, ARNP, Physician Assistant, PAC, APP, or Advanced Practice Provider to join the Critical Care Management team at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC). Located in downtown Orlando, ORMC has served the Central Florida community for over 100 years and is recognized as a leading acute-care facility with 898 beds and the only Level I Trauma Center in the region. The hospital has received accolades from U.S. News & World Report and holds multiple Beacon Awards for Excellence. The position is full-time with varying shifts, and the successful candidate will provide inpatient management and consultations for critically ill patients under physician supervision, utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited nurse practitioner program with a Master’s Degree and board certification if graduated after July 2006.
  • New hires must obtain acute care certification if placed in this job after May 1, 2021.
  • Graduate of accredited physician assistant program.
  • New hires must obtain acute care or critical care fellowship program if placed in this job after May 1, 2021.
  • ARNP license in the state of Florida.
  • Maintain current ACLS and BLS certifications.
  • Obtain Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) Certificate within 6 months of hire if preapproved.
  • If graduated before July 2006, must have 2 years experience as a nurse practitioner in a critical care APP role.
  • Two years of critical care experience in an APP role for Physician Assistants, with a fellowship substituting for required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient management, consultations, and co-management of critically ill patients under physician supervision.
  • Possess specialized skill and knowledge unique to the ICU setting.
  • Provide direct clinical services for critically ill patients according to established protocols.
  • Obtain comprehensive and focused history and physical exams on critically ill patients.
  • Evaluate critically ill complex patients in the ICU and step down units.
  • Order and schedule appropriate laboratory and radiographic studies.
  • Work with supervising physician to determine and place appropriate specialty consultations.
  • Perform complex procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of medical and surgical problems.
  • Perform advanced cardiac life support and act on behalf of the supervising medical staff in emergencies.
  • Interpret arterial blood gas reports and manage mechanical ventilation.
  • Assess need for vasoactive medication and place appropriate order sets.
  • Interpret radiographic tests and operate with a high degree of independence in patient care.
  • Perform emergent lifesaving procedures in critical situations.
  • Conduct preliminary daily rounds and multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Assess patient for changes in status and institute appropriate interventions.
  • Notify attending physician about unusual events requiring consultation.
  • Initiate necessary emergent interventions to stabilize deteriorating patients.
  • Prescribe medication using evidence-based medicine and clinical judgment.
  • Document patient progress notes, consult notes, and clinical resumes.
  • Explain procedures or tests to patients and their families.
  • Provide family-centered care and education as needed.
  • Utilize current research and evidence-based medicine in clinical practice.
