About The Position

Come be part of a world-class academic healthcare system, at UChicago Medicine, as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) in the Pediatric Surgery Department. As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will cover General Pediatric Surgery services. The Nurse Practitioner is an Advance Practice Nurse responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management, managing a caseload of patients, and exercising autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The NP's scope of practice also includes family support, teaching, staff education, consultation, and research, utilizing advanced practice skills for assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care, as well as performing some invasive procedures. The Physician Assistant is qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, clinical nursing specialist support and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership of the Center for the Section Chief of General Surgery. The PA assists the physician/surgeon, takes patient history, conducts examinations, diagnoses illnesses, orders and interprets laboratory tests, assists during complicated operations, independently coordinates CME Conferences, and schedules surgical procedures in the GOR area.

Requirements

  • Licensure: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), or AGANCP with PNP certification required (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Education: Graduate of a formal nurse practitioner program (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Education: Completion of an accredited (physician assistant) educational program required (for Physician Assistant)
  • Licensure: Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for: State of Illinois licensure/registration required (for Physician Assistant)
